About Post Oak Bend

Post Oak Bend is a Kaufman County town on Farm Road 987, just north of Kaufman and south of Terrell. Before 1886 the community had no name; the first school took its name from the large post oaks on the site. A second school went up in 1909, a third in 1930, and the school consolidated with Kaufman in 1947. The town incorporated in March 1979. Today the Kaufman County seat is only three miles south, and Kaufman ISD schools serve Post Oak Bend from the county-seat side of the map. The place’s story is a school, a tree name, and a small town built along a narrow farm-road strip.
