About Potlatch
Potlatch is a Latah County city on the Palouse, built as a company town around one of the biggest white-pine sawmills in the world. Frederick Weyerhaeuser's Potlatch Lumber Company chose the site in 1903, and the mill town soon had worker housing, a school, churches, a hospital, hotel, and mercantile. The mill closed in 1981, but the old company-town bones remain around City Hall and the historic depot. Potlatch is north-central Idaho in a timber-and-river shape, with the Palouse still setting the edge.
