Potomac Park, MD

Potomac Park is an unincorporated community and census-designated place along the North Branch Potomac River in Allegany County, Maryland. U.S. Route 220 runs through the settlement between Cresaptown and Cumberland, with Bowling Green immediately north. The river and the steep mountains around Cumberland give the area a strong valley shape, while the highway keeps the community tied to the county seat and the West Virginia border country. The river corridor remains central to the local map.

The Allegany County Fairgrounds occupy a broad tract along the Potomac, a site that has hosted agricultural exhibitions, animals, rides, and regional gatherings since the fair moved there in 1924. The Western Correctional Institution is also within the CDP, adding another major land use to the map. Around those larger properties are homes, side roads, river bends, and the industrial edges of the Cumberland area. Potomac Park is defined by its setting: a river community on a busy route, with county traditions and mountain infrastructure sharing the same narrow valley.
