About Prague

Prague is a Lincoln County city whose Czech roots show up in both its name and its calendar. Bohemian settlers came after the 1891 land run opened the Sac and Fox Reservation, and the town was named for Praha, then anglicized to Prague in 1902. The Prague Historical Museum sits on Jim Thorpe Boulevard, a street named for the Sac and Fox Olympic athlete born near town. The annual Kolache Festival, first held in 1952, brings Czech food, music, dancing, and a parade to Main Street each May. The local shorthand is Czech settlement, Jim Thorpe, kolaches, and a city still organized around those reminders.
