About Preston
Preston is a Caroline County town with Linchester Mill still doing the historical heavy lifting. The colonial-era mill and store tied the community to grain, and during the Revolutionary War it supplied George Washington's troops. Later, freight cars carried tomatoes, apples, wheat, and watermelons out of town. Four state highways shape the local road map, while the Southern States grain elevator and silos rise above it. Preston is Maryland's Eastern Shore in a practical farm-town shape: mill, crossroads, grain, and a long memory of moving produce.
