Princeville, NC

Princeville is best known as the oldest town in the United States incorporated by African Americans. It was founded in 1865 by formerly enslaved people who established a community called Freedom Hill along the Tar River, later renaming it after local carpenter Turner Prince. Today, it is a quiet, close-knit community located directly across the river from Tarboro, giving locals a peaceful residential setting with easy access to neighboring restaurants, shops, and everyday services.
