Prospect, NC

Prospect is a Robeson County census-designated place northeast of Pembroke, with the community's roads stretching toward Preston, Red Hill, and Old Maxton–Red Springs Road. Its strongest local thread is Methodist life. The church community has long been part of the American Indian Methodist tradition in southeastern North Carolina, and Prospect's story is closely tied to the Lumbee people who have shaped Robeson County's history. The place is recognized more by church connections, family land, and roads between neighboring communities than by a single commercial center.

Adolph Dial was born in Prospect in 1922 and devoted his career to teaching and writing about American Indian history, especially the Lumbee Tribe. His work helped bring wider attention to the people and places of this part of North Carolina, giving a small rural community an important place in the region's intellectual history. Prospect had 873 residents in the 2020 census. The surrounding roads lead to homes, churches, fields, and neighboring communities that share the same Robeson County landscape.
