About Prospect
Prospect is a Butler County borough that started as a crossroads market town. It was laid out in 1825 where roads from Franklin, Pittsburgh, New Castle, and Butler met, serving the surrounding farm country. U.S. 422 still carries that through-road role, but the big nearby draw is Moraine State Park and Lake Arthur, whose 3,225 acres were formed after Muddy Creek was dammed in 1968. The Big Butler Fair grounds sit along Route 422 in Prospect, and the borough’s own Community Day adds a more local date to the calendar. Slippery Rock Area School District serves the borough, with Moraine Elementary on Main Street. Prospect is a small town with old market-town bones and a large lake next door.
