Puckett, MS

Puckett is a village in Rankin County, Mississippi, in the southeastern corner of the county and within the Jackson metropolitan area. The first European-American settlement at the site was established in 1837, when pioneers called the place Clear Creek. Calvin Boone was among the early settlers, and a man known as Merchant built a water mill and blazed a road along a ridge toward Shiloh. Those details give Puckett an older map built from creek water, mill power, and routes across the South Rankin countryside.

The village later became an educational center for the southern part of the county. Puckett High School, together with Puckett Elementary, ties the community to the Rankin County School District and remains one of the clearest local reference points. The school has also carried the village name beyond its streets through its athletics, including state football championships in 2002, 2006, and 2008. Puckett is a small Mississippi village, but its Clear Creek beginning, mill road, school history, and place in the Jackson area give it a story that reaches well beyond a simple county line.
