Red Cross, NC

Red Cross is a Stanly County town at the meeting of Highways 24/27 and 205 in western North Carolina. Before incorporation, the crossroads had a major local store: farmer Dan Hinson built and operated one of Stanly County's largest stores there in the early 1900s. The town incorporated on August 1, 2002, as nearby Charlotte-area growth pushed outward and residents worked to keep the surrounding area agricultural and rural. Red Cross is a newer municipality with an older crossroads story, sitting right where two highways make the town's shape easy to find.
