Reedsville, WI

Reedsville is a Manitowoc County village whose first map was drawn as a 56-block town in 1854 by Judge George Reed and Jacob Lueps. The place was known for years as Mud Creek, after the stream running through it, before residents settled on Reedsville. Lumbering, sawmills, and factories filled the early business district, while French Canadian, Menominee, German, Bohemian, and Irish arrivals added to the village’s population. Reedsville became an incorporated village in 1892.

Today the village sits in the middle of a dairy and agricultural region, with its school, municipal services, fire department, and local businesses serving the surrounding farm roads. The bigger regional map reaches toward Manitowoc, Green Bay, the Fox Valley, and Milwaukee. Collins Marsh, a 4,200-acre state-owned wildlife and wetland refuge, lies in the surrounding landscape, and lakes within roughly ten miles add another layer to the area. Reedsville reads as a small farm-service village with a creek in its name, a deliberately platted center, and a wetland country just beyond the streets.
