Rich Creek, VA

Rich Creek is a Giles County town on the east side of the New River at the mouth of Rich Creek, where the 2020 census counted 749 residents. Pearisburg lies about nine miles southeast, and the town sits within the Blacksburg–Christiansburg metropolitan area. The New River forms the town's western edge and gives Rich Creek its strongest geographic reference.

The town's incorporation dates to April 17, 1946, with its current charter tracing to 1947. The town was incorporated by the Giles County Circuit Court, and its present boundaries grew from that mid-century legal framework. Regional history places Rich Creek's story back to 1780, when settlement followed the river and mountain routes through the New River Valley. Giles County includes 37 miles of New River and a long Appalachian Trail connection, so Rich Creek sits inside a larger recreation and manufacturing landscape. Its name comes from the meeting of town and waterway, a simple clue to how the local map was formed.
