About Richburg
Richburg is a Chester County town of 280 people at the 2020 census, in east-central South Carolina. Interstate 77 passes just west with access from Exits 62 and 65; Charlotte is 40 miles north and Columbia 53 miles south. South Carolina 9 runs along the northeast side of town, leading west to Chester and east to Lancaster. That puts Richburg on a practical crossroad between county roads and the larger Charlotte-Columbia corridor.
The surrounding history reaches back well before the interstate. The Elliott House, also called the Chester County Log Cabin, is a two-story log dwelling near Richburg built around 1770; it was listed on the National Register in 1971 and delisted in 2025. Landsford Plantation House is another historic property in the Richburg vicinity, and a branch of the Chester County Library serves the town. Richburg's local map therefore pairs a small highway town with old houses, county services, and a modern route running just beyond its western edge.
