Richland, NJ

Richland is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Buena Vista Township, in Atlantic County's farm-and-pine country of southern New Jersey. U.S. 40, the Harding Highway, runs through the village, and the Pinelands National Reserve gives the surrounding fields and woods a wider ecological frame. The Richland Improvement Company developed much of the place in 1888, when two railroads tied this rural crossroads to Camden, Atlantic City, and Cape May.

Railroad history still has a physical address here. Cape May Seashore Lines runs excursions from a reproduction of the original Richland Station toward Tuckahoe, while the Patcong Valley Model Railroad Museum builds a miniature regional network inside the old rail story. Dalponte Farms adds a working agricultural presence, and Buena Regional schools and St. Augustine Prep connect the community to the township's weekday calendar. Richland has the South Jersey combination of farm roads, pine edges, rail memories, and a U.S. 40 strip that keeps the village linked to the larger shore region.
