Ririe, ID

Ririe is an eastern Idaho city spread across Bonneville and Jefferson counties in the Idaho Falls orbit. The town took its name from David Ririe, a Utah homesteader who settled here in 1888 and began cultivating a small claim. Farming still gives the area its rhythm: wheat, barley, alfalfa, and potatoes are the main crops, and the surrounding roads run through broad irrigated fields before reaching the foothills. Ririe is small, but it sits in a landscape where water management matters as much as city limits.

That is where Ririe Reservoir enters the picture. The federal Ririe Project uses the dam, reservoir, and Willow and Sand Creek floodway system to control flows and reduce flood damage around Idaho Falls and nearby farmland. The reservoir is also a recreation destination east of Idaho Falls, so the town's name appears on both a working water project and a weekend map. Ririe is a farm city with a two-county footprint, a homesteader's name, and a reservoir that ties local agriculture to the larger Snake River system.
