About River Forest

River Forest is a Cook County village just west of Chicago, with its township government coterminous with the village. It incorporated in 1880 and developed as a leafy, affluent inner suburb with large homes, mature trees, and quick access to the city. Dominican University and Concordia University Chicago give the village a strong academic presence. River Forest feels quieter than neighboring Oak Park, but it shares the same close-in suburban advantages: transit, historic architecture, and a strong sense of place.
