Riverdale, VA

Riverdale is a Halifax County census-designated place on the south side of the Dan River, adjacent to South Boston. The older community grew along Route 58 and west of present-day U.S. 501, with early- and mid-20th-century homes and churches shaping its footprint. Memorial Baptist Church, built in 1923, is one of the landmarks tied to Riverdale’s history. Today the place has a statistical boundary rather than its own town government, so the best way to read it is as a named community within the South Boston area.
