Riviera Beach, FL

Riviera Beach's waterfront is both an industrial gateway and a public recreation corridor. The mainland port faces the Lake Worth Lagoon, while the city's Atlantic side includes much of Singer Island. Riviera incorporated as the Town of Riviera in 1922, annexed a large part of south-central Singer Island during the 1940s, and adopted the Riviera Beach name. Population grew from 37,604 in the 2020 census to an estimated 39,357 in 2025. The Port of Palm Beach makes the working side of the shoreline impossible to treat as background: on 162 acres it handles more than 280,000 container units annually, ranks fourth among Florida's container ports, and operates South Florida's only on-dock freight rail system, with five miles of track.

Blue Heron Bridge provides a very different way into the same waterfront. At county-run Phil Foster Park, an artificial snorkel trail covers two acres in six to 10 feet of water, using limestone boulders and reef modules built from 600 tons of rock. Squid, octopuses, rays, and starfish are among the regularly observed marine life; diving is allowed from sunrise to sunset outside the guarded swimming area. The city's Municipal Beach lies farther east at 2500 North Ocean Avenue. Parking at Ocean Walk and the marina is paid, with a permit process available to qualifying city residents, so beach access carries a concrete planning detail.

Away from the shore, Riviera Beach's 2026 recreation schedule included a weekday after-school program at Tate Recreation Center, a free weekday senior program at Wells Recreation Center, swim lessons, aqua fitness, youth sports, and summer splash events. Bicentennial Park at the marina also hosted the city's annual July Fourth celebration, with live music, family activities, and fireworks over the water. Port operations, lagoon access, ocean beach routines, and city programming all occupy the same eight-square-mile municipality.
