Rockville, SC

Tucked away at the southern tip of Wadmalaw Island, Rockville is a tiny, peaceful waterfront enclave along the banks of Bohicket Creek. It feels secluded and undisturbed, surrounded by wide salt marshes, winding tidal waterways, and canopies of moss-draped live oaks. Even though downtown Charleston is only about a 45-minute drive northeast through Johns Island, life here moves at a refreshingly slow pace guided by the tides and the water.

Much of the town retains the feel of an old coastal haven, lined with breezy 19th-century summer cottages that Charleston families originally built to escape the summer heat. That maritime heritage is still very much alive today, seen in the working shrimp docks, local boats tied up along the creek, and the famous Rockville Regatta, an annual August sailing tradition hosted by the Sea Island Yacht Club. It is a quiet, close-knit corner of the Lowcountry where historic Southern charm and deep coastal roots shape everyday life.
