Rockville, UT

Rockville sits along the Virgin River just outside Zion National Park, near the mouth of Zion Canyon and the road toward Grafton, Gooseberry Mesa, and Smithsonian Butte. Mormon pioneers founded the town in 1862, and its historic plan still sits within a rural, residential, and agricultural community. The setting puts a small number of homes and farms beside one of Utah's busiest canyon approaches, so traffic and tourism are part of the town's everyday reality.

The 1924 Rockville Bridge is the town's best-known piece of infrastructure. It is Utah's only surviving Parker Through Truss bridge still used for vehicles and was once the main automobile route between Zion and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. When the bridge needed major work, residents raised matching funds through town allocations, art sales, auctions, and even rubber duck races; rehabilitation finished in 2019. The bridge now serves local properties, recreationists, tourists, and history visitors. Rockville's story is one of a farming settlement that has had to share its river crossing with the national park next door.
