About Ropesville

Ropesville is a city in Hockley County, Texas, United States. The 2020 census counted 430 residents. In 1935 during the Dust Bowl, the Resettlement Administration bought land and planned an experimental Industrial Farm. Rexford Tugwell, the Administer, wanted to determine the feasibility of rural farming on the plains, calling the project Ropesville. The short version is that Ropesville carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Ropesville: its past remains attached to the places people use now. U.S. Routes 62 and 82 pass together through the northwestern side of the city, leading northeast 21 miles to Lubbock and southwest 18 miles to Brownfield.
