About Rosamond

Rosamond is a Kern County census-designated place at the northern end of the Antelope Valley, on the western edge of the Mojave Desert. It began in 1877 as a Southern Pacific Railroad townsite and was named for the daughter of one of the railroad officials. Today Rosamond is closely associated with nearby Edwards Air Force Base, aerospace work, desert commuting, and schools serving the local community. The setting is open and high-desert, with Lancaster, Palmdale, and Mojave all part of the broader regional context.
