Rosharon, TX

Rosharon sits at FM 521 and FM 1462 in northern Brazoria County, about 14 miles north of Angleton and seven and a half miles east of the Brazos River. The 2020 census counted 1,362 people in the CDP, while nearby addresses carrying the Rosharon name extend into Fort Bend County. The place is tied to a broad South Texas landscape of farm roads, river distance, and scattered communities, with no compact municipal core.

Before the Civil War, cotton and sugar plantations shaped the area. The Columbia Tap Railroad reached the site in 1859, creating Masterson’s Station after a nearby plantation owner; locals also called it Buttermilk Station because a resident served the train crew a bucket and dipper of buttermilk. Around 1900, George Wetmore Colles named his ranch Rose of Sharon Garden Ranch, and Rosharon grew from that name. A post office arrived in 1912, with rice and soybeans among the crops. Today students attend Angleton Independent School District, and the roads still do the work of tying the scattered Brazoria County community together.
