About Rossmoor

Rossmoor is a planned Orange County community bordered by Los Alamitos and Seal Beach, with Long Beach immediately west. Developer Ross Cortese created it after working on Lakewood Rancho Estates and Anaheim’s Frematic Homes; he later built the first Leisure World retirement community just south in Seal Beach. The 2020 census counted 10,625 residents, compared with 10,244 in 2010. Its commercial boundaries tell part of its jurisdictional history: Seal Beach annexed the larger Rossmoor Business Center in 1967, and the renamed Shops at Rossmoor now lies outside the community, while Rossmoor Village Square remains within it. Four of Los Alamitos Unified’s six elementary schools—Rossmoor, Weaver, Lee, and Hopkinson—are inside Rossmoor.
