Rote, PA

Rote is a census-designated place in Lamar Township, southern Clinton County, positioned near the northeastern end of the Nittany Valley. Pennsylvania Route 477 runs through the community, leading west about three miles to U.S. 220 at Cedar Springs and east toward Interstate 80 near Loganton. The road continues through a mix of farm fields, wooded slopes, and scattered homes, so Rote is easiest to understand as a small settlement on a valley-to-highway route.

The surrounding landscape carries the everyday rhythm: Lamar Township roads climb toward forest, while the valley opens into fields and larger regional connections. Rote United Methodist Church has served as a community meeting place for more than a century, with its congregation tracing the church's land purchase to the Evangelical Association in the nineteenth century. The 2010 census counted 507 residents in the CDP, but the place is more than a number on a census map. Its identity comes from the road, the church, the township, and the farms spread around the Nittany Valley.
