About Roy

William and Esther Baker and their children settled Roy in 1873, 25 years after nearby Ogden. The Weber County community had previously been called Central City, Sandridge, the Basin, and Lakeview before taking the name of a local schoolteacher’s child. Workers and personnel from Hill Air Force Base, the Navy Supply Depot, and the Defense Supply Depot later lived in Roy. The city lies west of Interstate 15 within the Ogden–Clearfield metropolitan area. Exit 338 links I-15 to State Route 97 and the northern entrance of Hill Air Force Base. Roy’s FrontRunner station opened in 2008, and FrontRunner and Union Pacific tracks cross the city at 2700 West.
