About Royalton
Royalton sits along the Platte River where Morrison and Benton counties meet. The city was platted in 1878 and incorporated in 1887, taking its name from Royalton, Vermont, the home of some early settlers. The river was practical as well as scenic: logs harvested in eastern Morrison County moved through Royalton on the Platte, giving the town a working connection to the region’s timber trade. Today Royalton remains mainly in Morrison County, with a small part extending into Benton County and schools serving the community from one elementary and one high school. The local shorthand is Platte River, split-county geography, and a Vermont name carried west.
