Russell, PA

Russell is a Warren County census-designated place in Pine Grove Township, tucked between U.S. 62 and Conewango Creek east of Lander. The creek once carried lumber rafts toward the Allegheny River, and local pilots guided them through rapids below town. Russell was laid out in 1843, took its name from Robert Russell, and gained a railroad in 1871. The trains and rafts are gone, but the creek, routes, and old village name remain. Russell is northwest Pennsylvania with a river-working past under the present-day map.
