Russiaville, IN

Russiaville’s interurban depot is the kind of survivor that tells you a lot about the town without needing a long speech. Construction began in 1911, and the station served electric rail passengers from 1912 until 1932 under several operating companies. The building later became condominiums, with residents there into the 1990s. It is also one of the few buildings in town to make it through the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak of 1965. Today the depot is listed on the National Register, giving Russiaville a physical reminder of the Indiana interurban era. The local shorthand is simple: electric rail, a hard storm, and one station that stayed standing.
