Sadsburyville, PA

Sadsburyville began as a village of ten log houses on land granted by William Penn, established in 1729 after the name Sadsbury had already appeared on an 1708 deed. Its position at the meeting of Old Wilmington Road and the Lincoln Highway gave the village much of its later shape. The Strasburg Road reached the area in 1784, and the Philadelphia-Lancaster Turnpike, later the Lincoln Highway, followed in 1797. The village sits about four miles west of Coatesville and three miles northeast of Parkesburg in Sadsbury Township.

The Sadsburyville Hotel remains the place's most legible old building. John Sloan received the property in 1799, the post office opened there in 1825, and stagecoaches used the crossroads for meals, mail, and overnight stops. The Pennsylvania Railroad arrived in 1833, adding another layer to the travel network. Coatesville Area School District serves local students, while the old hotel and the highways still show why a small unincorporated village took root here. Sadsburyville is a Chester County place where road, post office, stage stop, and rail history are all still visible in one intersection.
