Salado, TX

Salado sits right along Interstate 35 between Austin and Waco, centered around the spring-fed waters of Salado Creek. Home to roughly 2,400 people, the village blends deep Texas history with a relaxed, small-town pace. Established in 1859, it still showcases its heritage through 19th-century limestone buildings, historic bed-and-breakfasts, and shaded green spaces along the creek, which was named the state's first natural landmark back in 1966.

For newcomers, the local school district is a major draw, as is the walkable downtown filled with art studios, craft breweries, boutique shops, and regular weekend events. Living here gives you a quiet neighborhood setting, while neighboring Temple and Belton provide quick access to major hospitals, colleges, and big-box retail about 15 minutes away. You will have to prepare for hot Texas summers and occasional flash flooding near low-water crossings after heavy rain, but Salado remains an easygoing, scenic community with plenty of character.
