About Salt Creek Commons
Salt Creek Commons is a Porter County census-designated place in Union Township, six miles northwest of Valparaiso and just east of Wheeler. The 2020 census counted 1,979 residents. The CDP is a housing development west of Salt Creek, a north-flowing stream that runs toward the Little Calumet River, so the place is defined by a neighborhood boundary and a drainage corridor more than by a traditional town center. With no conventional town center, the neighborhood calendar fills in for the kind of civic schedule found in an incorporated town.
The Salt Creek Valley Commons Homeowners Association handles the shared calendar, newsletters, budgets, and meeting records, giving the development its main civic structure. Nearby Valparaiso supplies county-seat services and larger shopping, while Porter County's roads and storm-water system shape the practical edges of the neighborhood. Salt Creek Commons' local scoop is a northwest Indiana residential CDP where one creek, one homeowners association, and a nearby county seat define the whole address.
