San Cristobal is a Taos County census-designated place of 206 residents at the 2020 census, set along the northern New Mexico road between Taos and Questa. State Highway 522 is the thread that makes the map readable: Taos lies to the south, Colorado is the route north, and the Sangre de Cristo foothills rise around the valley.

San Cristobal sits about twenty miles north of Taos, close to the D.H. Lawrence Ranch and other high-country places reached from the highway.
