San Jon, NM

San Jon is a tiny, quiet village in eastern New Mexico, sitting along Interstate 40 about twenty miles east of Tucumcari. Home to fewer than 200 residents, it offers big skies, wide-open plains, and a slow, peaceful pace. The town first took root in the early 1900s around the railroad before evolving into a popular roadside stop during the heyday of Route 66.

When the interstate bypassed the old highway in the early 1980s, the heavy tourist traffic moved on, leaving behind a close-knit rural community.
