About Sawpit

Tucked along the San Miguel River about twelve miles down-valley from Telluride, Sawpit is one of Colorado's tiniest mountain communities. With only a few dozen residents, daily life here is quiet, scenic, and simple. The Sawpit Mercantile sits right along Highway 145 and acts as the town hub, combining a gas station, corner store, and casual bite to eat under one roof. The settlement got its start during the 1890s mining boom milling lumber for local claims. Today, it serves as a peaceful home base for people working and spending time in Telluride and Mountain Village.
