Schurz, NV

Schurz is a quiet desert community located along Highway 95, sitting roughly halfway between Fallon and Hawthorne in western Nevada. As the administrative center of the Walker River Indian Reservation, the town is home to the Walker River Paiute Tribe’s government offices, community services, and local health clinic. It offers a peaceful, slow-paced setting with wide-open desert skies, where life centers around the tribal community.

The area holds deep cultural heritage as the homeland of the Agai Dicutta, meaning Trout Eaters, and the final resting place of the historic Northern Paiute leader Wovoka. Everyday essentials and community gatherings happen right in town, while larger grocery trips, big-box stores, and specialized healthcare are a thirty-five-minute drive north to Fallon. It is a close-knit rural neighborhood with strong cultural traditions and miles of open Great Basin country right outside your door.
