Schuylerville, NY

Schuylerville is a Saratoga County village on the west bank of the Hudson River, east of Saratoga Springs and next to the Village of Victory. The 2020 census counted 1,370 residents. U.S. 4 and NY 29 meet in the village, and the Hudson forms the eastern edge and county line. Dutch settlers arrived from Albany in 1691 and called the area Fort Saratoga. That older river crossing grew into a village whose streets still carry the names and routes of a much larger regional history.

The Revolutionary War is close to the surface here. In 1777, General John Burgoyne's British army crossed the Hudson north of the village during the campaign that ended at Saratoga, and the surrender associated with Fort Hardy happened on ground now occupied by Fort Hardy Park. Saratoga National Historical Park includes the Schuyler House and surrender-related sites in and around Schuylerville. The park also has a beach, boat launch, riverside gazebo, boardwalk, and access to the Empire State Trail. Schuylerville's present-day map is therefore a useful blend: a working village on the Hudson, a neighbor to Victory, and a place where the turning point of the Revolution sits beside ordinary parks, roads, and homes.
