Science Hill, KY

Science Hill is a home rule-class city in Pulaski County, perched on a small rise along Kentucky Route 635. The 2020 census counted 657 residents. Kentucky Route 1247 passes east of downtown, while U.S. 27 runs along the city's eastern edge, giving the community a clear position in the roads between Somerset and the smaller farm settlements around it. The hill is modest, but it gives the city its name and its shape.

Local history ties the name to William 'Willie' Bobbitt, who studied the area's rocks and helped establish the post office in 1874. Science Hill School began in a one-room log house in 1894, and the independent school district was formally established the following year. It serves younger students, while high school graduates choose between Pulaski County and Somerset schools. Science Hill's story comes together through a named hill, a school that grew from split-log benches, and a downtown threaded by routes that have carried people across Pulaski County for generations.
