Scotland Neck, NC

Scotland Neck is a Halifax County town in the Roanoke Rapids micropolitan area, set among eastern North Carolina farms, woods, wildlife, and the Roanoke River. The 2020 census counted 1,640 residents. The town’s late-nineteenth-century growth followed agriculture, commerce, manufacturing, and the brick storefronts along Main Street. Its historic district, listed on the National Register in 2003, includes commercial buildings, houses, churches, and civic structures; Vine Hill Academy adds another layer to the town’s educational history.

Current town business covers water quality, utility rates, permits, police, board minutes, and local employment. The Scotland Neck Business Association works to promote downtown businesses, while the town’s recreation pitch reaches toward birding, fishing, hunting, country roads, and agri-tourism along the Roanoke landscape. Historic-home walking tours and driving markers put the older streets into the present-day calendar. Scotland Neck is also looking toward economic renewal, balancing its agricultural inheritance with small businesses and outdoor visits. Main Street remains the hinge between town business and the surrounding countryside.
