Scurry, TX

Scurry is a Kaufman County town where the railroad gave a farm community a reason to stay put. Settlers arrived in the 1840s, a church and school followed, and the Texas and Pacific Railway reached the area in the 1870s, turning Scurry into a shipment point for nearby farms. The town took its name from Scurry Dean and incorporated in 2003. Today State Highway 34 runs through town, with Kaufman about seven miles northeast and Dallas roughly 34 miles northwest. Scurry-Rosser ISD operates its elementary, middle, and high schools here. It is a small North Texas place with a rail-era backbone and a clear connection to the farms around it.
