Seneca, MO

Seneca is a Newton County city on the Missouri-Oklahoma line, platted in 1869 and named for the Seneca Nation. The post office opened that same year, and the city grew with one foot pointed toward the state line. Lost Creek runs close to town, with Missouri 43 through the city and U.S. 60 just south. Seneca's story also includes a difficult modern chapter: the 2008 tornado outbreak damaged homes north of town, and a memorial was later placed beside Lant's Feed and Country Store. The local shorthand is border town, Lost Creek, and a name carrying an older history westward.
