Seville, FL

Seville is a Volusia County census-designated place on US 17, north of Pierson, with 580 residents in the 2020 census. William Kemble Lente founded it in 1882 along the Jacksonville, Tampa and Key West Railway, then built a bank, a brick house, and a costly water system while investors planned a hotel. That burst of railroad-era ambition left a long local backstory in a place whose present-day map is mostly rural and agricultural. The community's commercial development is limited, so US 17 and Lake George Road do much of the orienting. Seville's bigger landscape is west of the highway.

Lake George State Forest spreads across pine, longleaf, hardwood, cypress, and bay habitats, and the Bluffton Mound and Midden marks the St. Johns River and Lake George area's Indigenous past. County and water-management lands add a wildlife corridor along the lake and river, with black bear habitat and more than 20 miles of contiguous protected land. For residents, the town's practical geography is a crossroads between US 17 and a broad river-and-lake landscape, with Pierson and the rest of Volusia County supplying the nearby service network.
