About Sharon

Sharon is a Weakley County town of 935 residents in the 2020 census, one of five municipalities in northwest Tennessee's agricultural landscape. It incorporated in 1901 and runs its own water and sewer systems, but the surrounding community reaches back further: Wesley Rogers and John Jenkins received land grants in 1824, and early churches and schools formed around the roads beyond town. Mount Vernon Methodist Church dates to 1823 west of Sharon, while Corinth Baptist stands east of town.

Sharon's elementary and middle schools sit near the center, giving the town a daily stream of students, buses, and family errands. Sharon Methodist and Primitive Baptist congregations add older local landmarks, while the town's streets connect farms and smaller communities to the rest of Weakley County. Dresden, Gleason, Greenfield, and Martin are the county's other municipalities, but Sharon keeps its own scale and history. It is a small Tennessee town built from land grants, churches, schools, and utility lines, with a rural road network that still brings the surrounding county through its center.
