Sharpsburg, GA

Sharpsburg is a Coweta County town in the Atlanta metropolitan area, with 327 residents at the 2020 census. The community was founded in 1825 and incorporated on December 13, 1871. Its name honors Judge Elias Sharp, who owned one of the first homes here and helped incorporate the town. Georgia State Route 16 runs through the southern part of Sharpsburg, leading about ten miles west to Newnan and seven miles southeast to Senoia.

Sharpsburg began as an agricultural community organized around a railroad depot, and that combination of farm country and transportation still shapes its local map. Coweta County’s school system serves students in the area, including East Coweta High School and nearby middle, elementary, and primary schools. The town is small, but Atlanta’s larger orbit reaches into it through roads, jobs, and school connections. Sharpsburg keeps its own town government and name while sitting within the Piedmont landscape and the expanding network of Coweta County communities today, in western Georgia.
