About Shaver Lake

Shaver Lake is a Fresno County census-designated place at the southwest end of the lake that shares its name, high in the Sierra Nevada. The first lake grew out of logging: in the 1890s, the Fresno Flume and Irrigation Company used a dam and long flume to move timber toward the San Joaquin Valley. Southern California Edison later built the larger dam in 1927 as part of the Big Creek hydroelectric project. Shaver Lake is mountain California with a working-water past under the recreation map.
