About Shelter Island

Shelter Island is a town and census-designated place on the eastern end of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York. Surrounding the village of Dering Harbor on the north side of the island, the seaside community of approximately 2,125 features many historic Victorian cottages built as part of a Methodist camp meeting site. Public education is served by the Shelter Island Union Free School District.
