About Shelton

Shelton is a Buffalo and Hall County village on the Wood River, U.S. 30, and the Union Pacific line, with the Lincoln Highway passing through downtown. Before the railroad, the Great Western Stage Company established a station here in 1860; the community was first called Wood River Centre before becoming Shelton. The river still runs by the business district, and old downtown institutions include the Shelton Clipper newspaper, banks, and the town's school. Nebraska Link 10-D connects Shelton to I-80, but the older travel pattern is still easy to see: stage road, river crossing, railroad, highway. Shelton is a Platte Valley village built in layers of transportation.
