Sheridan, WY

Sheridan is a northern Wyoming city set between the Bighorn Mountains and the plains, about halfway between Yellowstone and the Black Hills region. Coal mining, ranching, rail connections, and Chicago investors all shaped its early growth in the late 1800s. Today Sheridan is known for rodeo culture, historic downtown buildings, parks, and access to mountain recreation. It feels Western in a lived-in way: polished enough for visitors, but still grounded in ranching, energy, and regional service work.
