About Sherwood Shores

Sherwood Shores is a Grayson County census-designated place on the Red River, about 20 miles northwest of Sherman and east of U.S. 377. The community grew after Lake Texoma was completed in the 1940s, appeared on county maps by 1970, and the 2020 census counted 1,165 residents. The lake and river set the geography: homes, roads, campgrounds, and shoreline lots all face the water or the long drive back toward Sherman and nearby towns.

There is no incorporated city hall organizing Sherwood Shores. The Sherwood Shores Association brings property owners and residents together across Cedar Bayou, Cedar Mills Estates, Hillcrest Shores, Wright Acres, and neighboring areas, with work around improvements, fire protection, beautification, and community development. The older campground history still hangs over the place, even as year-round residents manage roads, utilities, property questions, and trips for schools and groceries. Sherwood Shores is a lake community in the practical sense: the Red River sets the state line, Lake Texoma sets the weekends, and the association keeps the neighborhood work moving.
