Shickshinny, PA

Shickshinny is a quiet riverside borough in Luzerne County, set in a deep mountain gap where Shickshinny Creek meets the Susquehanna River. With a population of around 600 people, it offers a peaceful, secluded setting surrounded by five steep, forested ridges that define the local landscape. The community grew around coal mining, railroads, and river commerce in the 19th century, and that classic small-town character remains intact today with modest homes, leafy streets, and a relaxed, unhurried pace.

Outdoor recreation is a major draw for residents. The Susquehanna Warrior Trail passes straight through town, providing miles of level pathways for morning jogs, dog walks, and bike rides along the riverbank. Route 11 runs directly through the borough, making for an easy commute to larger employers, shopping, and healthcare throughout the Wyoming Valley.
